Russian Hill Estate, a family owned and operated winery, was established in 1997 by husband and wife team Edward Gomez and Ellen Mack. Their nephew, Patrick Melley, is co-founder and winemaker. Located on a hill, in the heart of the Russian River Valley, the winery is dedicated to the production of Pinot noir and other cool climate varieties. The winery's philosophy is to maintain the highest degree of excellence in viticulture and winemaking and allow wines to fully express their provenance. We strongly believe that only by having full control over both the vineyard and the winery can this goal be accomplished.

To preserve the sensuous aromas, luscious flavors and elegant qualities of Russian River Valley Pinot noir, we use the utmost care and gentle handling from vineyard to bottle. Our grapes are sourced from our two estate vineyards and several small, dedicated growers that share our goal and are willing to sacrifice quantity for quality. Russian Hill's sources encompass a range of 'subappellations', soil types, microclimates and clones. Our winery facility was designed with Pinot noir production in mind, with capability for prolonged cold soaks in small, open top tanks with frequent punch downs to facilitate an aqueous extraction of flavor and color prior to exposure of the skins to alcohol during fermentation. Extra care is taken to prevent excessive tannin production or oxygen exposure thereby preserving the rich aromatics and elegance of Pinot noir.
